Eggciting Times......Incubating Eggs in Room 8

Over the last 21 days, we have been incubating eggs in our class. Ms Johns brought in her incubator and talked to us about how to care for them. They need a constant temperature of 37.9 degrees and a humid environment. We had to turn the eggs 3 times during the day.

On day 10 we 'candled' them. This is an old term which means to use a light to see if they are fertilized. A dark spot inside is a good indication the egg has a chicken growing inside it.

As you can see from this photo, this egg is fertilized. Yippee! Now we have to wait until after camp to find out if the 6 eggs that have been fertilized, hatch!
