Kitchen Science

Atapana worked incredibly hard mulching this week.

Alla and Ahmed found many kumaras.

In the garden we were harvesting kumara and mulching the garden paths. We weighed the kumara and then got this garden ready for replanting next week.

In the kitchen Ms Best was teaching us about all the different scientific reactions that take place in the kitchen. We looked at how yeast makes C02 when we make bread, then we made herb butter to have on the baked bread.

For dessert we made ice cream using ice with salt added, to lower the temperature. It took a lot of shaking to make it!

Some of us carried out a mini investigation. We used a thermometer to measure the temperature of ice water without salt and then with salt added. We found out that salt drops the temperature of the ice water.
