Breen Week Bird Talk with Ms Best
Yesterday, Ms Best came to school to share with us her knowledge about our Native Birds. She brought with her some birds and pests that had been taxidermied. We were able to see how the New Zealand falcon/kārearea uses its talons and large eyes to hunt and how the Tui and New Zealand pigeon/kererū use their colourful feathers for camouflage. We leant that native NZ birds have learnt to freeze to hid from a native predator such as the falcon but this doesn't work introduced pest such as stoats and possums. Thank you Ms Best. You taught us a lot!
